Re: Brilliant ideas!

Budweiser
we use it to frighten off the snails at sunset.
I might look into whether Bud Lite can be used to keep Trumpublicans away ...

Re: Brilliant ideas!

Look at the positive, though: it wouldn't be YOUR bins smelling like wolf urine!

Re: Hyperinflation

It is a problem with probably all education that it tends to be presented as canned problems with canned solutions, and if you wend your way to the pre-packaged solution, you get a treat. I suppose it would be cruel, but there would probably be benefit to tossing students into desperate situations, ...

Re: Brilliant ideas!

You might try eating a big meal of game meat and then urinating all around the bins.

Re: Nouvelles de France

Last I checked the square root of one percent was (plus/minus) ten percent. So if we go with the positive solution, that sounds pretty well defined. But not all that small. Yes, the source of that verbage probably followed the famous "SRISR" ("square root is smaller, right?") lo...

I think hirsute is something you have to grow yourself rather than buying.

-- approximately the square root of one percent of the population --
???

What are the units of a square root of part of a human population -- ?

This seems to be little more than a call to radicalism.

Re: Nouvelles de France

Am I missing something? 3-4% marching sounds like a lot to me.  Agreed. I tend to think that France's retirement system -- normal retirement age 62, is it? -- is very likely cushier than a competitive economy without vast oil reserves can support, but someone apparently communicated it poorly. In A...

Re: Bad reporting

I bought a house from a Trevelyan. A bit left leaning.
Was it the house or the Trevelyan that was left leaning -- ?

Re: Bad reporting

It strikes me that reparations would hardly be an issue except that -- at least in the anglophone world that I am aware of -- we have enshrined intergenerational conveyance of wealth securely within our cultures. The Brits of course are big on class and inbreeding, but in America we have done away w...

Re: What is Sunakism?

And, yes, I expect civil servants to do what they are told within reason. They are probably much more valuable for their eyes and their ears, and occasionally their brains, than they are for their hands and their legs. In America, we once had fairly competent civil servants. But one of our politica...

Re: UK going to the dogs

where did it all go wrong.
Good to see that Russia had stuck to its traditional values.
Sadly, vassalage seems to be one of those values.

Re: What is Sunakism?

Per my sister, who worked as a physician in England for a few years, the English -- even physicians -- are ... let's just say not as energetic about their work as Americans. But is that just how the culture is, in which case it's unreasonable to insist that they be otherwise? Even from just a few da...

Something was written about wanting to avoid providing identifying information about the complainants, but other than something about raising hi...
