Re: FSU, Toby Young, Eugenics & Wilmott.com

OK, I’ll chime in. While Alan and I don’t always see eye-to-eye on political matters, I found the Bill Maher video to be simultaneously funny and pretty reasonable on the facts of the situation. As for the video about raising money for killing Jews, my main takeaway was the accompanying request for ...

Re: norway

As it happens, there are major dialect differences within Telemark; both along east/west lines and between coastal areas and inland valleys. So the question is not very precise.

Re: Merry Christmas

No, it’s just a west coast thing, along with smalahove (the face of the lamb). I grew up in a pork culture, meaning ribbe and medisterkaker for the main Christmas Eve meal. And then we could probably have a whole separate thread on the topic of mølje (pronounced with a thick “l”): flatbread soaked i...

Re: FSU, Toby Young, Eugenics & Wilmott.com

Paywalled. From what I have seen elsewhere but have not tried to verify, it sounds pretty bad for Gay. But, in case anyone is concerned about freedom of speech, shouldn't it be asked why her work was scrutinized? I suspect that most of the world, like me, would have guessed if pressed on it that Ha...

Re: Merry Christmas

I lived in Norway until the age of 23, and I swear I never saw pinnekjøtt (or, for that matter, lutefisk). God Jul!

Re: Step in Ito's Lemma Derivation

I’ve moved beyond the point of getting excited about this stuff, but I’d recommend following Shreve’s approach and first getting the economics sorted in a binomial setting and then taking a limit. Or, if I were to be radical, consider Rob Anderson’s approach to construct a nonstandard Brownian motio...

Re: UK going to the dogs

Aloha from Norway! Jumping out in a T-shirt to bring some wood or even barefoot in the snow when the temperature is below -20C is no problem for me. Made a Norwegian woman of me! ;-D
I’m proud of you!

Minor correction: MIT is not in the Ivy League. They compete in NEWMAC.

Re: Stupid question of the day

Well, I think we've had two answers to my stupd question. Just waiting for somor and leptoq.  I'm sorry, Paul, I missed this question before. Yes, each time when I have to dispute with intellectually inferior creatures like marsden and cuchullain, I feel stupid and childish for wasting my time on i...

I think Rep. E. Stefanik doesn’t throw numbers out of the blue.

That’s such a sad statement. It’s hard to argue further after that.

Re: Trump -- the last 100 days

Trump finally has an obvious VP candidate! As I had hinted at the other day, it is now official. George Santos has been freed up from his congressional obligations and should be the ideal running mate to orange Jesus. Being from New York he brings geographical balance to the ticket. He has self-ide...

Re: is elon musk for real?

So, speaking at a DealBook conference today, the musk addressed his advertisers on X with the succinct “Go fuck yourself!” He, probably correctly, described their reaction to his antisemitic posts as “What’s it’s going to do is it’s going to kill the company, and the whole world will know that the a...

Re: God Hates Ireland ? Land of the Sodomite Damned

In Norway, back in the day, they would be referred to as sigøynere (ref German Zigeuner) or tatere (tartars). This probably does not live up to the old Scandi idiom that a beloved child has many names.
