Actually, there's something I wanted to ask around: I know Excel is a good piece of software under several points of view, but am I the only one who f*cking hates the sh*t out of it.

There are many roads leading to Rome..The C++ ATL and Shared add in wizards are becoming much easier to use, recently.Raw XL looks intimidating. And then there's C# and Excel-DNA. Latter is very user-friendly. DF,Excel addin demos

If you are feeling ambitious you can build an addin with COM and IDTExtendibility2 a mano, brick by brick. Having done that, let ATL do it.

QuoteOriginally posted by: outrunI have a spreadsheet with the definition of a tree. Each node in the tree is a row in a table with these columns:* node_id* parent_node_id* distance_to_root* descriptionHow can I get a visual representation of the tree, prefereable like a directory structure, and prefreable without VBA, -eg. using a pivot table-? EDIT:Solved it at the Oracle backend with the START WITH and CONNECT BY hierachical SQL language extension. Nice of Oracle to provide that type of query functionality!did you write a script based on the hierachical SQL language extension to build a tree outside of Excel ?
