Mike Pence. At least you know what he stands for.

looking back to the nixon administration, do you think it was just a coincidence that they got rid of ted agnew before they got rid of president nixon?

the deep staters in general, and the neocon never-trumps in particular, seem happy with mike pence. Many of pence's advisors are never-trumps, for example william kristol
Pence would be an absolutely abhorrent president. But one problem at a time.

If Archimedes were alive today do you think he would be waffling on like this?

Have we just entered the waffling era, or is it coming to an end?

### Re: The Wilmott Philosophy Thread

Imagine this
Classes of illocutionary acts

Searle (1975) set up the following classification of illocutionary speech acts:
assertives = speech acts that commit a speaker to the truth of the expressed proposition
directives = speech acts that are to cause the hearer to take a particular action, e.g. requests, commands and advice
commissives = speech acts that commit a speaker to some future action, e.g. promises and oaths
expressives = speech acts that express on the speaker's attitudes and emotions towards the proposition, e.g. congratulations, excuses and thanks
declarations = speech acts that change the reality in accord with the proposition of the declaration, e.g. baptisms, pronouncing someone guilty or pronouncing someone husband and wife

The classification is intended to be exhaustive but the classes are not mutually exclusive: John Austin's well-known example "I bet you five pounds it will rain" is both directive and commissive.

Do you agree with Kant that people shouldn't be judged based on factors which were beyond their control?

That is an odd usage. It’s like saying that the probability of rolling two dice whose sum is 11 is 2, rather than dividing through by the total number of equiprobable states to get 2/36, which is a proper probability.

### Re: The Wilmott Philosophy Thread

better is "Unified Probability" is any number $p$ that satisfies $-\infty \leq p \leq \infty$
Saves a lot of hassle.

it subsumes all others.
