Re: Predictions for 2020

Somehow, foreigners don't have the same affinity for "Dinner for one" as those of us who grew up with it. Dinner for one
It was shown everywhere except UK. I remember the Germans falling for it.
It is quite funny.

The strangest thing is how there is a long introduction at the start in German explaining what the film is about. Is that a common thing in Europe, that you need to be told in advance that something is funny and perhaps when you are supposed to laugh?
My German friends in Black Forest were just crazy about this. They take their humour very seriously. Everyone had to be present, ready for the show to begin. It never caught on in Netherlands.

Maybe the slapstick caricatures that they like? @bearish?
My mum always said that audiences applaud a singer when she/he sings a song they know. Creatures of habit.

Except for jazz.

"New car, caviar, four star day dream, I think I'll buy me a football team". I actually just realized today that I know somebody who bought a share of a premier league team. He is also a co-owner of an NBA team, so not shocking per se, but I hadn't quite tied it back to the Pink Floyd lyrics.

Well, I'm inclined to be magnanimous on this issue.

We have European football and American football, certainly.

And this forum being populated primarily by Europeans (and RoW, Ex-USA), then the default assumption for "FOOTball" is European football, e.g., soccer.

Now rugby is a completely different matter and one of my *favorite* sports, even beyond American football.

Let the battles of 2020 begin!

I don't know which teams will win, but I predict that I will be watching some of this in the weeks to come.

That's Rob Kearney from Cooley!
Rugby Union is becoming the snobs's sport. There's also Rugby League up in Warrington.

Nostradamas 2020

“Near a great bridge near a spacious plain the great lion with the Imperial forces will cause a falling outside the austere city. Through fear the gates will be unlocked for him.”

“In the city of God, there will be a great thunder.

Two brothers torn apart by Chaos while the fortress endures.

The great leader will succumb.
The third big war will begin when the big city is burning.”

And of course, the usual weeping and gnashing of teeth.

Following some comments made recently by kata, French appear to have a very specific anatomy which raises the legitimate question whether the left hand of a French footballer actually is a foot?

When I was a student a bunch of us used to go to the Long Hall on Saturday afternoon to watch rugby and drink the best Guinness in Dublin.

In those days, rugby players weighed 80 kg. Now they weigh 120 kg and look like Charles Atlas. Must be the water...
