Re: Predictions for 2020

Following some comments made recently by kata, French appear to have a very specific anatomy which raises the legitimate question whether the left hand of a French footballer actually is a foot?
So, that's the reason for the high productivity of French economy!

Well, it's cool and may find an audience and good for women to do sports in general.

But this is where my heart is: big men hitting hard, running fast, and no cryin' on the way to the medical tent or locker room. : D

and here is a little taunt for Farid:

Footballers spend 90 minutes pretending to be hurt.

Rugby players spend 80 minutes pretending not to be.

True dat.  Hehe.

Off the fields rugby players are softies. At uni we never hired them as bouncers. When trouble starts, they run home to mama! No initiative, what?

More trivia: TCD rugby club is the world's in-existence oldest.

In those days, rugby players weighed 80 kg. Now they weigh 120 kg and look like Charles Atlas. Must be the water...
.....in the water indeed.

One rugby fact that I find depressing, is that of the apartheid-healing all-conquering RSA team in '95, of the 15 guys who took the field in the final,
4 them are in the great dressing room in the sky now... :(
(they were all about my age...I find myself become more sensitive to these observations!).

Were you a rugby player?
Up to 45 years ago I used to do many sports (kind of all rounder). After that, only judo, condition, jujutsu and that's it. And at 67 I see no reason to stop,
No running, cycling, weights, tennis etc.

Only at school, deep into last century...

The thing with the springboks is that it smacks of dabbling with performance drugs just as the sport was becoming professional.
Wind the clock forward a couple of decades and that (maybe) those dabblings are exacting a serious price
Other teams of that era don’t seem to have such casualty lists...

Rugby is becoming very popular in Ireland and many parents want their school kids to play it, and often for the wrong reasons.  It is becoming obsessive.

In Japan, school judo is what it might become

According to research conducted by Ryo Uchida, a professor at Aichi University of Education, since 1983 at least 110 children were killed while practicing judo. Between 2009 and 2010, as reported by a local newspaper, some 13 children have died. The latest case occurred last November and involved a child of six years of age.

In Japan, judo has no safety rules.
