Open parks and beaches. Picnicking (and lobster, champagne, etc.!) permitted. But no ball games in which ball might hit other people. You don't have to exercise just keep away from other household units. Strict rota for who/when based on surname. Take ID.

Open primary schools. Attendance optional.

Open any shops that can guarantee certain levels of cleanliness. (Obsessive cleaning of baskets, trolleys, credit card keypads, gloves and masks to be worn by all staff, regular hand and face washing,...)

I read the other day than NY has a problem with disposing unclaimed bodies: Dozens buried in New York mass grave as coronavirus deaths surge
I can see a solution here...

Soon we will hear from a decent US university that the numbers of people who have had the virus is far greater than reported numbers.

Deaths will tail off dramatically, regardless of lockdowns.

Inquiries will be set up. Various academics and commentators will look stupid.

Many people will have died because of the emphasis on corona.

Many businesses will have gone bankrupt.

It will all turn out to be another example of mass hysteria, following on from that caused by Brexit and Trump.

Faith in experts and the media will fall even further.

From the numbers for Sweden https://www.worldometers.info/coronavirus/country/sweden/ their weekends are sacred. Not much counting of cases or deaths then.

The weekends are for going to the park with family and friends. Freedom!

Big risk takers, so they are. What about a second wave?

I am thinking of patenting this Covid-risk reducing hand shaking machine, can also be used for Covid free Swedish massage!

(to stay safe burn it after one time use). Stay safe! Stay healthy! Please do not let Covid stop you from Shaking hands!  Just do it a bit smarter than that Borris dude!

Nicotine patches to be tested on patients after study suggests smokers less likely to catch COVID-19"

"Researchers in France say early data indicates those who smoke make up a disproportionately small number of people in hospital with COVID-19."

I wonder if it's not like with another researchers' revelation that in Russia disproportionately less old men die from covid. The obvious explanation might be that they drunk themselves to death by the high-risk age.

@Collector - and you can safely continue gathering your Schwarzchild radius statistics!

City of Newport Beach, Amicus Brief

The hearing is on May 11.
I predict the governor (Newsom) will cave and rescind the order before then.

For context, here are the Orange County daily Covid deaths. The gaps represent 0's, and there have been 0's for the last two days:

The zeros for last two days will be weekends. Are the numbers for date of death or date of reporting?

yes, likely a weekend effect. Date of reporting. And just now checking the source of my source, unfortunately looks like the next graph point will be a 5.

Neil Ferguson resigns from SAGE panel

Because he broke lockdown rules.

This is a silly reason to resign. If he's such a genius give him a slap on the wrist. That's if you think he is going to save the human race.

I don't think he's going to save the human race. In fact the opposite. So I'm happy for him to play a much smaller role. But not resign. (Caveat, if it turns out that breaking lockdown rules involved licking bottles of tomato ketchup in Aldi then ok. But I don't think it will turn out like that.)
