Re: Good things that come out of this pandemic...

in Norway supposedly record numbers of new companies have started up after they enforces the strict corona rules. I think for the following reasons, some good, some not so good

1. People finally have time to work on their startups.
2. Some uses corona as excuse to take their company bankrupt to get rid of debt etc. Now they can blame it on corona times. Then they start up new company.
3. Many have lost their jobs and are "forced" to be creative.

also people are making their gardens nicer than ever, lots of do it yourself home construction going on.

Deaths from flu.

2020 not so special here. (But it does look that a hot planet is better. For all sorts of reasons.)

Here's Paul's chart again.

Worldwide, I think it's fair to say that the corona virus outbreak has concentrated in richer countries. Makes sense, as there is more travel from, tourism to, and trade with those countries. Since southern hemisphere countries tend to be poorer, this complicates the picture on seasonality. But, Australia is a rich, southern country and has essentially no outbreak. Ditto for the (somewhat less rich) South Africa. This suggests, going forward, there may be a strong seasonality to covid-19 new cases, like the flu. If so, will this change the debate on global warming?

Haha!

Here's another real positive (WSJ, possible paywall):
44. Less Driving, Fewer Accidents: Car Insurers Give Millions in Coronavirus Refunds
Allstate said it would dispatch $600 million in shelter-in-place payback checks, while American Family Mutual Insurance Co. said it is returning $200 million to its smaller policyholder base.
I have Allstate.  :D

Of memorising, yes - Internet sadly replaced books. Of education - I doubt.
