Alloys, indeed a great invention, but much older (Mesopotamia 3000 BC?).
Cupronickel might be 20th century though?

nuclear weapons.  At least for my family and my existence in this world.

That being said, the identification of replacement risk as material.  I wouldn't have a job if that weren't the fact. :) haha.

I can’t help feeling that I’m the intended audience for some of your posts, since aside from Collector (who is still on a major vitamin D kick), I’m probably about the only one around here who is fluent in your language. Not sure whether it qualifies as pidgin or creole at this stage, but it’s rapidly mutating!
My Norwegian is like Covid? :-) No, the torture of reading it isn't intended for you or anyone. I'm just trying to practice Norwegian at the level, to which mitt norskkurs hasn't arrived yet. My problem is that I need from the start complex sentences and sophisticated words to express all my deep and profound thoughts (only in writing; in spoken language I go perfectly fine with yes or no once a week, or comunicación a través del silencio). I hope all elements: grammar, vocabulary, collocations, ..., will click in soon and I'll become entitled to wear en rød anorakk!

Scientific preprint repositories (not that arxiv is fair anymore)
Nice story, how scientific progress fuelled by free information exchange was traded for short-term financial profits or journals.

2 or 3 years ago. Truth is distorted by the gravity of matters.

Doesn't go over too well with the Guardai. ;)  That being said, my chosen profession seems to always get me in like Flynn. :D

The gardai at Pearse Street station have been trained to handle this. BTW, who's Flynn?
