Re: Classical music thread...

I've been to a Maurizio Pollini concert (piano & vocals ;-)) in Southbank Centre last evening. He played Chopin and some fillers. I think it's inappropriate when the audience give stand up ovations to artists of such a calibre. They should rather get on their knees.
The fawning classes. A bit like the Concertgebouw, what?
When I lived in Pavia I saw Maurice Andre; he got 4 encores!
allegro, ma non troppo?

In that case it's for outrun (though I'm thinking that maybe it's not that extraordinary, after all).

BTW, i think we mean different things by living surrounded by water:

And if you cannot see the water, it's a swamp.

It's not a nature reserve, but it's well protected:

It's rather M.R. James than Graham Swift :-)

My father likes Mahler, but I've never really listened to him.  Perhaps I should....
When I was a boy of fourteen, my father was so ignorant I could hardly stand to have the old man around. But when I got to be twenty-one, I was astonished at how much he had learned in seven years.

Cuch has canals behind his house, in front of his house, to the left of his house, and to the right of his house. There's ground-water under his house and the sea is about a meter above his house. He really is surrounded!

And in the 60s there were TWO canals in front of the house. What a shame it;'s gone.

There are times of the year when the water level in the two smaller rivers and the big one (from the photo I have already removed) rise and we become an island :-) The soil is excellent.

St Matthews Passion London Tonight

April 5th, 2017, 9:35 am

I have three tickets for tonights performance of St Matthews Passion at St Johns Smith Square. At the last minute I cannot go - wife is unwell, brother in law had to travel.
Ian Bostridge is singing the Evangelist part, if you know who he is you'll know he's an internationally famous tenor/counter-tenor.
Anyone who wants the tickets can have them - not bothered about cash just hate them not used.
Reply or PM me if interested.

And even if you don't know who he is, you'll now know he's an internationally famous tenor/counter-tenor.

P.S. Does a counter-tenor knock out other tenors?
