Isn't "vampire squid" a Jewish slur?Anyway, there is something disturbing about this wikipedia phrase I can't put my finger on:QuoteLloyd Blankfein was born in the Bronx borough of New York City, to a Jewish familyMaybe it is the use of "to" rather than "in." Or maybe it is its use showing some discomfort with the idea that Jewish people are a race. There is no doubt that Lloyd Blankfein is Jewish. It is more obvious than interesting to me. But if it is interesting enough to point out in wikipedia, you might as well just say "Lloyd Blankfein is Jewish." Maybe that sounds too aggressive.I looked at the wikipedia entry for Donald Regan, and it doesn't say he was "born to an Irish family." It says "Born in Cambridge, Massachusetts, the son of Kathleen (née Ahearn) and William Francis Regan, he was of Irish Catholic origins" down in the lower area.If there is ever a wikipedia entry on me, they are just going to have to say "born in a family." Everybody was born, and at the moment they are born there exists a family. So it is just weird to describe someone as having been born, or having been born in a family. I guess they were too self conscious to say "LLoyd Blankfein is Jewish." They should have just made that the first line and been done with it.A google search of "born to" suggests some connotation of destiny.I also thought it this was weird when I looked up Chelsea Handler:QuoteChelsea Joy Handler was born in Livingston, New Jersey, the youngest of six children of Rita (née Stoecker) and Seymour Handler. Her father, American, is Jewish; her German-born mother, who came to the United States in 1958, was a Mormon. Handler was raised in Reform Judaism. Handler said that while growing, up she felt like an outsider, recalling, "We lived in this nice Jewish neighborhood...Everyone had Mercedes and Jaguars, and I was going to school in a Pinto."The woman is like 50, but it is above-the-fold interesting her parents had a Pinto when she was a kid? It is just weird that your parents having had a Pinto 40 years ago is relevant to who you are. I do not remember all the cars my parents drove.Just out of curiosity, I looked at wikipedia entries on Billy Joel, Billy Crystal, and Jerry Seinfeld. None of them is weird and uncomfortable.Jewish people may think they have moved beyond the Jewish thing. But by supporting Democrats, they are supporting mob politics. And wherever there is a mob, in my opinion there will probably be a jew not too far off.I remember I stood in the crowd of Mexicans trying to get picked up for labor jobs on a back street in San Mateo, California. I wanted to see if I lost all my money playing poker, if I could make a stake digging holes. I figured I look like a Mexican. But when I got right up next to them, I did not really blend in like I thought I would.
