OK, we're in the OT here, and it is after Mark's bedtime. When I clicked on that link, pretty much the first thing that I saw (aside from bad news) was this: https://www.bbc.com/reel/video/p072jkjv ... easure-gap.

All very interesting topics though.
I agree, there's too many of us. But I rather think the issue is this. There's too little time and not enough care to go around.

Also Bearish, very interesting. That only tells me one thing... Men aren't sufficiently good at their craft.

@Mark It doesn't take more time to eat plant-based diet than a meaty one (and if you're worried you'll be healthier from it, there's a lot of junk food available today) ;-)
And IMHO it takes a long-term loving relationship for a woman to have satisfying sex with her partner. Flings are good for STD enthusiasts.

A couple of years ago I corresponded with one of the authors of a refereed article that rated the efficacy of actions for reducing one's personal environmental footprint. The article included the obvious suggestions (ditching the car, going vegetarian, etc.) but completely missed an obvious one - namely, not keeping pets. It turns out that in North America, pets consume about a quarter of the environmentally ruinous animal-sourced protein produced. I asked the author why the obvious omission. He replied that he didn't want to invoke the wrath of the pet lobby. "You can't talk sense to those people, there's something wrong with their brains!," he said. I am inclined to agree.

Vegan, not vegetarian. Dairy production is as harmful to the environment as meat production.

Children leave a much bigger finger footprint than pets, so people shouldn't have them. I presume you're a vegan and don't have a car to set a good example to all those people who have "something wrong with their brains", DavidJN? ;-)
BTW, the authors of that article are just journalists, if I'm not mistaken - as fit to discuss the effective ways of stopping the natural environment destruction as you. Leave it experts who call on everyone to go vegan.

Pets are very educational, they teach people about the nature of animals. Konrad Lorenz said that anyone who has lived with a dog and is unconvinced that dogs have feelings like us is psychologically deranged, dangerous even.
