Cuantum technology has been explored at least since the 80s... Genuine question: have you heard about any institution actually using it in practical applications? In what use cases do we really need e.g. quantum encryption or quantum number generators? Simple improvements like two-level authentication and reseeding or adding environmental noise to RNGs have become common practice, but the quantum thing is just as blurry as before. From my observations such situations happen for two reasons: there's no need for the product or people don't understand the advantages. Since I'm a former quantum physicist (my PhD thesis begins with the description of a quantum computer! :D) and I ask the question, I'm suspecting the first, but possibly I missed some progress in this field...

It's all about research grants.
And a lot of posing.

What’s next?
You guys are going to argue blockchain is useless as well?

Which of Aristotle's sophistical refutations would this be an example of (#9 ??)

Any of you folks with physics backgrounds have thoughts on the assertion that string theory is nonsense?

Edward Witten being a Baltimore boy, I have to take the "pro-string" line.

Yes,  it's nonsense. More gravy than meat.

IMHO the future of science is the intersection of quantum technology, AI and string theory.

... with all publication ordered in some sort of blockchain, I assume. NFT held by the author.

There's an old joke that physicists model everything as a harmonic oscillator (indeed not much more than that one can actually solve). Stuffing the whole universe with them seems a bit extreme, but imho only in that sense ST more of a nonsense as other fields. Some people have a problem with the level of abstraction in the description of natural world. I think anything between (and including) ST and the concrete, empirically-based Aristotelean physics is OK as long as it's consistent.

No problem! Welcome on board. Give me a few days to get the IP documents ready with our legal department.
No cryptos, bitte!
