A long time ago I worked in the pipeline business. Once while in the Empty Quarter of Oman I wrote a manuscript on Waterhammer flow based on a software system for City Heating I worked on in NL. It might make a comeback to wean people off natural gas.
The app is just a network with a hyperbolic PDE in each pipe, a NordStream 1.0 if you will.
