Rainwater Collection and Gravity Well Systems: How to?

Birch sap can be made into wine that is quite amazing.Trees are a most useful arrangement of atoms. They can provide food, water, heat, shelter, and a good vantage point from which to spot approaching Big Bangers. They can even extract gold from the ground!

drugs in water QuoteThe amount peaks on Friday and Saturday, sampling by the Lisbon-based European Monitoring Centre for Drugs and Drug Addiction showed. Then it falls off as the drug-using population recovers on a Sunday, and continues to go down as they return to work on Monday. The research found levels in London slightly higher than those in Amsterdam, with 737 mg for every 1,000 people in the British capital compared to 716 mg in the Dutch city. The next city in the league was Antwerp in Belgium, at 632 mg.

If one city simply uses more water per capita, it's drug concentrations would be diluted.

I have the same issues, albeit on a smaller scale (connect 1/2 inch to 1 inch).

CRIME WAVE
Police slammed over manhunt for careless driver who splashed mum and her kids when they drove through a puddle

I'm surprised ppauper didn't spot this one, but maybe he doesn't do UK puddles, only NZ ones.

it does seem odd. I wonder whether the lady who got splashed was the police commissioner's mistress?

It would be quite easy to imagine our century without carpenters; we would simply use iron furniture. We could just as well do without the stonemason; the cement worker would take over his work. But there would be no nineteenth century without the plumber. He has left his mark and become indispensable to us.
We think that we have to give him a French name. We call him the installateur. This is wrong. For this man is the pillar of the Germanic idea of Cultrue. The English were the keepers and protectors of this culture and therefore deserve to take precedence when we are looking around for a name for this man. Besides, the word "plumber" comes from the Latin - plumbum means "lead" - and is thus for the English as well as for us not a foreign word, but a borrowed word.
For a century and a half now we have been receiving our culture secondhand: from the French. We have never rebelled against the leadership of the French. Now that we realize that we have been duped by the French, now that we realize that the English have been leading the French around by the nose for a long time, we are setting up a front of German culture against the English. We did not mind being guided by the French; it was very pleasant. But the thought that the English are really the leaders - that makes us nervous.

A possible side-effect of global _fill_in_your_favourite_word_ is sewage water mixing with water meant for drinking purposed during flooding.

No idea. I've got my own supply. And an extra: no tampering with mind-control crystals in the water.

Here's a common scenario: farmers need to get rid of slurry, so they spread it on the fields (behind the house). When it rains the slurry seeps into the aquifier and bingo, water source becomes contaminated!

Worse is:

https://www.scientificamerican.com/article/drugs-chemicals-seep-deep-into-soil-from-sewage-sludge/

farmers are paid to take this waste, or they are tricked into thinking it is environmental friendly and even pay for this. It is full of poisons (lots of research to back it)! and it indeed pollute ground water and soil (and likely also crops)

"a variety of chemicals, including anti-depressants such as Prozac and hormone-disrupting compounds in antibacterial soaps"
"Triclosan was found at the highest concentrations in the deep soil"

"Triclosan also has been linked to altered thyroid hormones and estrogen-related reproductive effects in animal studies. "

organic from farm animals are "fine". just buy filter for viruses, bacterias and parasites...   all the chemicals in sludge hard to prevent if dumped on fields, the numbers of different chemicals there are many.

The water quality in many places in so called advanced western civilizations are horrible...  asbestos (from pipes), prozac, hormon disturbing ingredients...common many places.   bottled water not necessarily better.
