This isn't moving in Obama's direction as fast as I expected it to, which is a cause for concern. Although I guess it's a three-day average, so maybe we'll see continued movement.

The trend continues.I think, however, that Obama needs to be at about 52% by the election to be confident that the country isn't going down the shitter. This is because (a) the Republican Party is broadly over-represented in Presidential elections, since sparsely populated states like Alaska and Wyoming -- both strongly Republican -- get an electoral vote for each of their Senate seats, and they have as many Senate seats as California and New York (the skew isn't as bad as in the Senate itself, because electoral votes are also given for each seat in the House, and the District of Columbia gets electoral votes [but no Senate or House seats], but it's still pretty strong); and (b) there is likely an over-reporting of votes for Obama in polls because racists will find it easier to choose a candidate based on race in the solitude of the voting booth than they do when responding to a human voice in a poll. Some of this is offset because McCain has pandered to the Republican base, so he is likely to increase his margin of victory in Mississippi and Alabama and the like, which he was going to win anyway, while probably doing himself no favors in less backward states where the election will be decided.
