Britain's Supreme Court side with bakery who refused to bake same-sex marriage cakeAshers Baking Co. in Northern Ireland refused in 2014 to make a cake iced with the Sesame Street characters Bert and Ernie and the phrase "Support Gay Marriage." The owners argued they shouldn't be forced to put messages on their products at odds with their Christian beliefs. The court agreed.
"In a nutshell, the objection was to the message and not to any particular person or persons," Judge Brenda Hale wrote in the unanimous decision.
A finely balanced edict.
It's ideological and there's no shortage of ideology in Norn Iron. Those bakers take themselves too seriously, as if the world revolves around them.
BTW it is the only region of UK that does not allow gay marriage.
I would say that refusing to bake a cake is very non-Christian, but I suppose the driver is the Bible (in particular, Old Testament) and not the teachings of Jesus.
Old habits die hard.
In the Republic, gay marriage is allowed. The Taoiseach (PM to you) Leo Varadker is gay as are several cabinet ministers.
A precedent has been set.
