95% of drinking water in USA is contaminated with microplastics.
https://www.theguardian.com/environment ... dy-reveals

The average number of fibres found in each 500ml sample ranged from 4.8 in the US to 1.9 in Europe.
That sounds like people in the US wash their clothes more often than people in the EU do.
Or there is just more to wash.
So true! Everyone here has giant walk-in closets full of lots of clothing and giant washing machines and giant dryers to launder them.

I LOVE American washing machines and dryers! They are soooo fast compared with EU wimpy things. I have a secret crush on them. Not so secret now, I guess.

Is that the reason for 25% of the world's energy usage?
Those big washing machines don't fit in EU houses.

Theresa May vows to eliminate UK's plastic waste by 2042

Good idea; there is a need to get the younger + ethnic vote because Jeremy is waiting in the wings.

So, you are in favour of convenience? Never mind you need gallons of water. It doesn't grow on trees.
Anyways, who cares. It's 60s technology.

the european union has laws restricting the power of various domestic appliances. I think we discussed vacuum cleaners a while back, and same thing.

Conventional top-loading washing machines with center post agitators use about 40 gallons of water per load. Compare that to front-loading machines that use somewhere in the neighborhood of 20 gallons. Remember, that 40 gallons will require twice the energy to heat, too, which is one of the key costs of operating a washing machine.

Front-loaders can clean clothes with less water because they use gravity to create agitation by rotating the drum to cycle the clothes above the waterline and drop them back into the water -- again and again. With the aid of gravity, front-loaders can get clothes clean while using half the water.

Will it ever catch on?

These are evil: plastic+battery+sugar. Could anything be worse? You could deep fry them, they probably do in Scotland.
