Locusts still have a mythic and literary aura that the un-Biblical cicadas don’t. Actual locusts are large grasshoppers, and they and cicadas belong to different families.I don’t think a horde of cicadas sounds right. Swarm is better. A plague of cicadas would not be inappropriate.

I’m conflicted on this one. On one hand, banning the Bible and any mention of the nonsense spouted therein, is a good thing. On the other hand, the Republican quest to ban (and burn) books is clearly not a good thing in general. It’s the library of Alexandria all over again.
