I don’t think a horde of cicadas sounds right. Swarm is better. A plague of cicadas would not be inappropriate.
Locusts still have a mythic and literary aura that the un-Biblical cicadas don’t. Actual locusts are large grasshoppers, and they and cicadas belong to different families.

Of them you may eat: the locust of any kind, the bald locust of any kind, the cricket of any kind, and the grasshopper of any kind.

Leveticus 11:22

"It was like Biblical proportions," said Soto of the cicadas he encountered as a child. "They’re really big. I remember thinking, as a little kid, thinking ‘What are these things and is this going to happen every year?’"

I rest my case.

US fisherman says 'humpback whale tried to eat me'

Same happened to Jonah. In those days they called it a 'big fish'.

Yes, evidently not kosher on account of it being a fish without scales. Same thing with jellyfish.

I’d try the spicy version. Although that’s a lot of Worcestershire sauce.

There's a pattern forming here.

Well Jonah bore the mark of Cain
His wife had thrown him out again
They'd moved the country all around
Hit the wall in Fort Mac town
When his wife said she couldn't bear
She said "you're moving on, I'm staying here"
She said "oh my hands are tied"
She said "oh my hands are tied"
Jonah cried: Oh Lord, I'm in the belly of the whale
When I try I still fail
It's been a long time of nothing, this old crime of nothing
Thin dime of nothing is killing me
You're not the one who's hands are tied

Utah primary schools ban Bible for 'vulgarity and violence'
https://www.bbc.com/news/world-us-canada-65794363

Bob Johnson, the father of a primary school student in the Davis School District, told CBS News that he opposes the Bible's removal.
"I can't think of what's in the Bible that you would have to take out of it. Its not like there's pictures in it," he said.

He probably only look at the pictures ..
My 19th century (Dutch dominee ediition) has many beautiful Gustav Dore etchings.

I’m conflicted on this one. On one hand, banning the Bible and any mention of the nonsense spouted therein, is a good thing. On the other hand, the Republican quest to ban (and burn) books is clearly not a good thing in general. It’s the library of Alexandria all over again. On top of that, this being Utah, you also have the LSD nuts to contend with.
