I say more money for Science, big science, small science, basic science, commercialization of useful science.Less money for war! And perhaps investment banks that have received huge bailouts in the past should help to fund the science. What if there was a "mandatory philanthropy" clause in bailout contracts - if we help you and you do very well, then you will get to help others later on.

Add a bit of art:Operatic Dance Performance filmed inside CERN - CNET March 8""Symmetry," its website says, is an operatic sci-fi dance performance based on the work being performed at CERN.It follows Lukas -- played by the film's choreographer Lukas Timulak -- a CERN physicist, hard at work using the LHC to search for the smallest particle in existence , when a ghostly woman played by soprano Claron McFadden appears, asking him if he loves the particle more than he loves himself, and, if he could, would he become one with the particle. As Lukas increasingly tries to focus on his work, Claron's message becomes more insistent, as she carries him through time in search of answers -- tearing him away from the timelessness of physics and pointing him towards the timelessness of love and music."...""Symmetry" will premiere in the Amsterdam EYE film museum on March 14, 2015 as part of the Cinedans film festival, and will also be shown at the NewScientist CERN festival in Pakhuis de Zwijger Amsterdam at 7pm on March 18."You Amsterdamers can see it this week!

One of the sites of the LHC (it locates some 200m from here). It is called the "cryogenics site" (it is point 7 on the map few posts earlier). The large green containers (??) are quite big (much more than they appear on the pic), but there is not much to see. There is no specific noise and I didn't see weird animals like the ones around Mr.Burns' nuclear plant.

Only composite particles can be found with the LHC! And yes one would expect there to be quite many of them, even some rather foolish ones that by fools could be mistaken as fundamental particles!QuoteAll these things being consider`d it seems probable to me, that God in the Beginning form`d Matter in solid, massy, hard, impenetrable, movable Particles, of such Sizes and Figures, and in such Proportion to Space, as most conduce to the End for which he form`d them; and that these primitive Particles being Solids, are incomparably harder than any porous Bodies compounded of them; even so very hard, as never to wear or break in pieces; no ordinary Power being able to divide what God himself made one in the first Creation. --- Sir Isaac Newton (the third master of the Universe) Well as the fundamental particles never can wear or break in pieces; they were also never created! Newton likely knew, but had to word it so he not could be brought in for heresy. Newton`s brain is a far better particle detector than the LHC. Somewhat smaller but far superior!Long live the God particles of Newton! They are not dead yet! Zillions of years and they are still like brand new! The standard model is a surface model! The Big Bang is a foolish joke!Long live the God particles of Newton!
