This SF policy of disenfranchising their voters is very amusing.
I think they were a bit apprehensive about being late.
Pity you don't know context.

"Countess Markievicz" was some nickname? A poor one - Markievicz/Markiewicz/Markievitsch sounds like a Russian peasant name.
She wanted to blend in with the local community. WB Yeats proposed (marriage) to her on several occasions.
FYI WBY is not buried in (the grounds of) Lissadel House, but in France. Don't tell the Yanks, for heavens sake.
Really?? Where in France?

Bloody hell... they sent you some frog with a club foot for Yeats!
Yeats had been disinterred the previous year and his bones mixed with others in the ossuary.
I'm wondering whom to blame. I'm betting on his wife, jealous of all the lovers. Some women can't share even if they marry hundred men that Yeats was.

Of course, you must try Tayto cheese and onion (best ever) and Harp lager.

I knew WB's granddaughter at Trinners but it just did not occur to me to inquire about the whereabouts of the good man's bones. Youth is wasted on the young.

The evil that men do lives after them; The good is oft interred with their bones; So let it be with Yeats..

I was gonna post that. Little/nothing on Wiki about this ignominious school. Who told you about it, the locals...?
Here's how it worked: the Catholic Church needed a constant stream of slave labour, so the Garda Siochana were on the lookout for kids of working class (and not articulate) parents who committed minor demeanours. I knew a few kids in our street. There were broken when they got out.
It was run by the Christian Brothers .. the guys I know said they were animals. I went to the French De Salle school and they were great teachers.

And those who got out were vilified by the society for exposing its parochial rotten foundations. Children are the niggers of the world.
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Peter_Tyrrell - committed suicide in London by setting fire to himself, wrote a book about Letterfrack that was published posthumously

In 2015 they opened the Letterfrack Poetry Trail commemorating the 147 victims of the brutality. The graveyard is at its path.

Can we just chalk it up to religion in general?

It's actually connected! I've been told Catholic Church's oppression caused the Irish's alcohol problem in the past.

One funny thing, i was generally surprised by the phenotypic variety of this population, although it's dominated by a Keltic type. Some people looked strangely familiar: very blue eyes (but with little trabecular mesh work), black hair (though completely straight) and nicely darker (but not yellowish) skin. The only major difference was very narrow lips. No quack quack! :-)

Ok, I've had enough beer for the rest of the year and don't want to annoy Bearish.

Why are all vets, as in animal doctors, Irish?

Because they have a lot of practice at home? I've seen a map recently: almost the whole country area are sheep and cow pastures - the rest is used for growing hay.

For more statistics than you probably care to read about vets around Europe, this is a handy link: https://www.fve.org/cms/wp-content/uploads/FVE-Survey-ALL-280416_AMENDED-April-2016.pdf. It shows a total dominance by a single country, both in vets per capita and the total number of vets overall -- Ukraine. It would not have been my first guess, but then again, what do I know?
