Vladimir Putin makes it official – he's running for re-election in 2018

I wonder what will be the odds on his re-election.

His odds of re-election will never be even.

The Russians invaded Iran in 1941, together with the Brits.

This may actually be one case where the mining could, on balance, be deemed to have positive social value. On the other hand, one is led to believe that their petaflop CPU is no match for ASIC rigs in their planned venture

If one is not paying for the CPU time or the electricity, an inefficient rig is still extremely profitable.

It's raining gold in Yakutsk!

Russian aeroplane loses gold-silver bars on take-off - BBC March 15 2018

How do you load bars of gold into an airplane? - just toss them into a big pile and hope they won't slide around during the flight?

Maybe a visual example would be helpful.

The British tend to be pretty well-organized - here is some of the gold in the vault at the Bank of England.

As you can see, they have a significant amount, but it's all nice and neat.

I see - so kind of a Slavic laissez faire attitude then.  Cool.

hard to know what it's worth as it said gold-silver alloy with no specifics
All gold would be a quarter of a billion, all silver would be about $30M

Just to compare, when Obama sent a planeload of $$$ and gold to Iran (with the hostages released as soon as  the plane landed), the gold alone was said to be worth $370M
