I saw U2 in 1981 when no one knew who they were and before they were a big deal
I think a better distinction is whether it's a band that you're a huge fan of and it's a big deal or whether it's a band that just happened to be playing and you went to keep your buddies company

I vaguely remember seeing them in the late 70s in Dublin. Even then there were high expectations. At the time Edge was a chef in a restaurant.
