So, the Chinese doctor who warned the authorities 3 months ago has succumbed to the virus. A cruel twist.

Echoing a post here on this thread from last week, did Corona come from that biolab in Wuhan we were talking about?

Creator Of US BioWeapons Act Says Coronavirus Is Biological Warfare Weapon - Zero Hedge Feb 4

now, you can pick ZH apart as a news source if you like, but this story merits watchfulness and further research.

Watching the news unfold about the coronavirus made me think about this thread.

Some sources point to a seafood and live animal market, but Wuhan is also the location of a large bio research lab.

Inside the Chinese lab poised to study world's most dangerous pathogens - Nature February 22, 2017

"Maximum-security biolab is part of plan to build network of BSL-4 facilities across China"

so, one wonders...

Will be reading more and interested to hear what others think about possible vectors and current situation.

Map from 1/21/20 - New York Times

Add France (3 cases) and US (2 cases).

Reports indicated that these 5 people had been in Wuhan recently.

In the US, as of 1/24,
"The CDC is also investigating another 61 potential cases from 22 states. Eleven have tested negative, and results from the rest are pending."

A better map (and up to date) for the coronavirus is managed by Johns Hopkins CSSE:
Wuhan Coronavirus (2019-nCoV) Global Cases
Also pulling Farid's previously posted useful link forward.

As of today 34,842 confirmed cases worldwide, of which 34,524 are in Mainland China
723 deaths
2,063 recovered

And zerohedge got suspended from twitter...

Yes, over the weekend, I'll be looking around for better sources.

I'm not a conspiracy theorist, but this is complicated, especially from an international public policy perspective.
Here is what Paul is referring to:

Twitter bans Zero Hedge after it posts coronavirus conspiracy theory - CBS News Feb 3

So, take it with a grain of iodine, I guess.

Here is a different angle:

China coronavirus: labs worldwide scramble to analyze live samples - Nature January 31

"Scientists need the pathogen to probe the biology of the emerging infection and to develop tests, drugs and vaccines."

Well, people can be pretty subversive, you know.

They are tweeting and retweeting and commenting on links to stories from ZH's website.

Can Twitter contain that?

doubt it - at least not discreetly.

As an addendum, I still don't have any masks beyond my wonderful construction worker ventilators left over from renovation and insulation work I have done on my houses. Maybe 5 filters leftover/unused and not adequate for this kind of thing. I have not even tried to buy them.  If it comes way out here to the countryside, it's probably game over anyway.  ;)

I do have a stash of Ghirardelli and Lindt Chocolate! :D But you have a lot of nerve criticizing American chocolate on the "Stupid" thread. The first time I was ever in London, jet lagged, really sleepy, I ordered a full breakfast.  Could not wait for the pancakes to arrive (for us a full breakfast would imply eggs, toast, pancakes, bacon and home fries.) What did arrive? - truly horrible.  Amazing I even went back to the UK after that shocking and disappointing experience!

So you keep your "full" breakfast and I will keep our sandy, grainy chocolate. Roger, Wilco, Over and out. : )

What an interesting little creature.  I had heard of them before but decided to read about them, starting here:

What is a pangolin - World Wildlife Fund

"Is there any good news for pangolins?

Yes! In 2016, a treaty of over 180 governments announced an agreement that would end all legal trade of pangolins and further protect the species from extinction. However, illegal trade of the species continues. WWF, together with TRAFFIC, works to protect species from wildlife crime. In Asia, we work to reduce consumer demand for illegal wildlife products with campaigns and partnerships with governments and businesses."

I'm not 100% vegetarian/vegan yet, although I am getting there.

But clearly, people should not be trading and especially not eating Endangered species.

I am not a "delicacy"; go find some nice mushrooms to eat and let me sleep! : )

Li Wenliang. If you were to measure celeb status by number of references on WeChat and Weibo, he is like a real Kardashian.
