What Watch do You Wear?

February 5th, 2010, 1:43 pm

I have been a long time watch fanatic, and I just got my first really nice watch. Its a Zenith Gran Port Royal Open. Just curious if there are others on this forums that enjoy owning nice watches. What do you have in your collection?

QuoteWhat do you have in your collection? I have not used a watch since I was 19. These days I ask my students during a lecture if I want to know the time. BTW why do you need a watch or even a mobile phone?

But what to do with credit cards? Is that a wallet (only for paper money?)

QuoteBTW why do you need a watch or even a mobile phone? You rarely ever need a watch on your wrist, its just a passion. Its a toy basically, you look at it, admire its construction, and enjoy wearing it. Think of the zenith. The case is so solidly built, the crystal so perfectly fits in its place, extending the curvature of the case. rarely do you see such precision. So many small little pieces working to keep the time, you would think it should be fragile but its built to withstand a lifetime of constant use. Think about the watchmaking that goes behind the el primero movement. If you do financial modelling you might be able draw parallels. In the case of the zenith, the movement is a beautifully decorated and highly complex physical model of the passage of time.

Fleming Bo Hansen - "Watch" (stainless steel link bracelet). Lies in a drawer - unused. Should better ask a modern art museum

QuoteOriginally posted by: LTrainI also do not wear a watch; I structure my life so I don't need one.Interesting 3/4 wear no watch.Since everybody nowdays is wired with a cellphone, a watch utility is reduced to that of a mere jewel. Moreover, in a countryside environment one can always watch the sun, while in a city environment, any guy would love an excuse to start chatting up a hot chick by asking her "what time is it?"

Quote"what time is it?" Not sure. Shows you must go somewhere and don't really want to be there. Better to say 'wil jij ook een biertje?"

You are responsible for your own image, and not wearing a watch shows that you are one of the hoi polloi. As I am involved in sales and business development, I always wear a watch and treat it as a fashion accessory:I choose the watch based on the subtle message I'm trying to convey to customers and business associates.
