QuoteOriginally posted by: ppauperfestivities under way in ChinaI was once on the market place of a village in the middle of nowhere somewhere in the Hubei or Hunan province (I just don't know where I was then). There were dogs in cage nears boiling vegoil. I remember the guys were grabbing the dogs (alive) by the 4 legs and dropped them in boiling vegoil. Dogs were put out of that killing bath in hardly few seconds and there appearance was like on the pics on the article posted by ppauper (actually, I have been searching for a while such photo to better describe what I saw there). (I enjoy eating meat but) I was quite schocked and could hardly believe what I was seeing. To be honest, I was willing to flee away running fast. One strange thing is that dogs in cage were presenting no resistance while they were being grabbed by their jailer. It is like they knew they had only seconds left to live and were resigned. After some minutes spent in this marketplace, I left. Some 200 m away there were old women cooking kinda pancakes (probably just wheat + water). I was hungry and then decided to buy some. I was attending while one of the old woman had been plunging the preparation in boiling oil. It was reassured about what I was to eat. She put the pancakes in a tranparent plastic bag. I paid and thank her. xie xie. I started to walk on my way to the next willage. I opened the small bag and discovered ther were worms crawling among the pancakes. OMG!I was just terrified! all alone on that small road to the next spot. There were banana trees everywhere on both sides of the road. I was finally my meal that day.BTW I do recommend travelling as a backpacker with no exact road / travel time planned. All alone if possible. That travel in China was an incredible experience.

A good night was had by all. Seeing the amount of sacrifice we went to, I reckon the gods were placated. Hope none were left out. Here is the venue at our Proleek.

I crossed the International Date Line in the afternoon of the 20th and immediately lost most of solstice day. We had no bonfires although I'm sure the combustion chambers of the jet's engines were nice and toasty.
