Once this javascript gets loose, everyone's CPU will sit a 100% utilization, 100% of the time. I'm betting you can suck down an extra 50-100W per PC on maybe 100 to 200 million PCs (assuming many users leave their facebook page open in some browser window or tab). That's 5 to 20 GW added to the baseload. Is there a GPU plug-in for Javascript?I've just finished (5 minutes ago ) an impact analysis of a European commision plan for an "energy savings obligation". the interesting thing about the proposed implementation is that one get's an obligation to install energy savings measure coupled to selling energy. This however, does *not* imply a reduction in energy consumptions! Just more-and-more energy consumption, and activities that are accounted as (NPV-ed future) savings activities.Although I can understand the desire to reduce total consumption, it seems like the wrong goal on three counts. First, reducing consumption presumes that all consumption is equally bad. For example, replacing substantive fractions of the world's transportation, energy production, and urban assets to improve long-term energy efficiency will require short-term increases in consumption. Second, localized or general economic growth would seem to imply local and general increases in energy consumption. Third, not all types of energy production are created equal. The real environmental issue isn't the quantity of energy consumption, but the technologies of energy production which vary tremendously in environmental impact. One really needs to do lifecycle GHG impacts and use measures such as GHG/GDP to decide if a given increase in consumption is "bad".QuoteOriginally posted by: outrunThe question is: do we need the CPU cycles? It will probably be used for realtime pimple removal in of video treams of 13 year old in facetime instead of medical simulations I'm afraid.Porn Auto-enhancers!

My workstation uses IP Telephony (no surprises there). What IS surprising is that they've integrated it pretty well.-I can click on phone numbers/ other work people's names on the directory/ instant messenger and my phone will auto dial their number.-Names and numbers appear on screen when there's an incoming call.-When in a voice meeting, the participants names appear on screen when they talk.-If you remote access, it allows you to put in your home/ mobile number to reroute your calls to that phone while you stay logged in.It's all relatively simple technology, but not a lot of organisations have integrated everything so impressively. Interestingly, we are less keen on desk video conferencing than places I've worked previously.

I prefer full-on independence. (That mixing board also has the advantage of a microphone input which could detect critical audio alerts in the ambient environment such as the microwave beeps, small child screams, velociraptor attack, etc. There's not to many IP-enabled children or zombies on the market yet!)

The best I can come up with is have something standardized like a 12-ounce can of beer. Place the iphone on the floor, and drop the can of beer on the floor from a height of one beer can and a distance of one beer can. Do the same thing from a distance of four beer cans. Then jump up and down as fast as you can at the distance of four beer cans. But the accelerometers are no way sensitive enough to calibrate the properties of the floor and then amplify the effect of your jumping.

You might have better luck with two iphones, and you could make it a social app. People could collide, measure strength of wifi signal around their bodies, things like that.
