He substituted a game of skill for a game of chance! Admittedly a very brief game with pretty trivial consequences. Although one wonders, have there been studies of the correlation between winning the coin toss and the match?

The eye catching football story of the week seem to me to be Franck Ribery tweeting pictures of himself eating steak painted in gold

When he copped a bit of flak for this excessive display of conspicuous consumption (surely getting close to peak displays of late stage capitalism?)
there was a distinct lack of contrition.

Ribery always reminds me a little of Jean Reno in the move Les Visiteurs

How the mighty have fallen! I can remember Sunderland playing for more than American pizza delivery honors.

What? Tranmere is a great team. I hope Paul sees this.

"Ya alreet marra ?"
That's what immigration officers at Newcastle port say.
Since 1993 every year I have spent some time passing throw Necastle and environs, except for 2020 of course.
Once I took a wrong turn and ended up in the friendly fishing village of South Shields. Or was it North Shields? Anyways, just head for MORPETH, btw I wonder if that nice new EU motorway is ready.

We might have had the worst fashions, terrible food, terrorism, football hooliganism, the three day week, inflation, strikes, and Jimmy Savile, but so what? We had the best music in the seventies!

Something that Tranmere Roves can't boast of!

I vaguely recall Merseyside having some influence on the music scene!
