Did you know that Benidorm has world-class hospitals for knee surgery, heart transplants, hair replacement etc.

Which planet does not get a mention in Holst's Opus 32 (and it's not Pluto!)?

Well, actually the Earth and Pluto are missing from The Planets.

Granted.  Here is some bedtime reading about all kinds of celestial objects.

Black swans and dragon knights (or something like that) - what are the latter? I keep recalling the latter every time I think about dragons. I remember "dragon knights" from some presentation or book (mentioned next to black swans), but I can't localise the source. Is it something about in- vs out-of-distribtution outliers?

Hi there.  You are probably thinking of "dragon kings" - large scale or large impact events emanating from a unique origin in relation to its peers.

Didier Sornette has written about them in several papers that I know of - around time of financial crisis and following - 2008-2012.

Decent set of references here: the usual Wikipedia disclaimer applies, but it is a place to start.

Thank you very much! What a relief to my brain!
The wikipedia note indeed quite vague, but I will look at the papers you mentioned.

Gentlemen (and Lady : ) !),

I have a moral dilemma and am seeking wise (and kind) advice.

The temperature here has varied wildly this week - from 45 degrees F to 15 degrees F - and a small snake has come into the basement at my house.

It came though a hole in the frame of the outside door - I saw it go back there yesterday. I suppose it woke up from hibernation during the warm spell over the weekend and now it is too cold.  I do not want to put the snake outside (it will freeze to death), but I do not want it to roam around in the cellar either.

Should I leave it alone and just be careful where I step? Buy a large terrarium? Wait for a warm day and relocate it then?

I'm inclined to let it stay there, but I hope that there aren't more to come!

Not poisonous - just a garter snake - about 15 inches long. Maybe it is a god or goddess in disguise?

Just keep it as a pet! let it wriggle around the house.

I forgot the tell my builder at the time to not to seal up the roof so that birds could build their nests.
