Started (writing) chapter 22.

I still want to start Icelandic again, and read the Sagas in the original.

CNN:

“Here are some ways to support Black mental health amid images of racial violence:… And if you haven’t seen those images, here they are…”

A couple of days ago I listen to BBC interview with some crypto-racist idiot who invoked US crime statistics - dominated by blacks. I researched and analysed those statistics quite thoroughly on the ocassion of my Wilmott Magazine article, so I knew they don't suport claims that black people commit more crime, but rather that the legal system is rasist. I posted on Twitter tagging BBC that they should ask experts to discuss such data and described the problems briefly. The twit disappeared on the next day... And we are bashing China?

Stephen Sondheim, who according to the news “reinvented musical theatre,” has died. That’s snobbish critics for you, he almost killed it off! Everyone loved his early “West Side Story,” “Gypsy” and “AFTHOTWTTF.” I suspect he wanted respectability, so after those popular successes he churned out rubbish that only a critic could love.

"I've always thought that there was room, that there was a place for us, in a sense to basically reimagine West Side Story for the generation that may not have even heard of West Side Story and may need to, you know, share some of the values and some of the drama and all the great music and certainly the great intentions of the original creators of the Broadway show," Spielberg said.

“The 34th [say] best movie out of [someone’s] top 100.” Where would it be in their top 500?

It feels like certain non-transitive preferences are likely to creep in when adding another 400 movies, so I’m guessing (logic be damned!) that it would be a bit lower, but not much (lest you make a mockery of the whole ranking). On the other hand, 34th out of a hundred sounds a lot better than 34th out of 35, although it probably should mean the same thing…

Every time I want to look at a video on CNN about some shooting I first get an advert with someone singing “It’s a lovely day …” I think artificial intelligence is as stupid as the real thing.

Good news from CNN, though: apparently they are going to stop announcing every last new news item as "breaking news."

If you search really hard you'll find that Rishi has overturned the previous Labour poll lead. But for some reason it's not being widely reported.

Well, 57% are wrong. Luckily the vote has happened. What else can I say?

(What I can say is that I tend to feel uncomfortable when most people agree with me. 'tis true. So this makes me feel a lot better.)
