Nah, they should read Burns

Wee, sleeket, cowran, tim’rous beastie,
O, what a panic’s in thy breastie!
Thou need na start awa sae hasty,
          Wi’ bickerin brattle!
I wad be laith to rin an’ chase thee
          Wi’ murd’ring pattle!

I’m truly sorry Man’s dominion
Has broken Nature’s social union,
An’ justifies that ill opinion,
          Which makes thee startle,
At me, thy poor, earth-born companion,
          An’ fellow-mortal!

I doubt na, whyles, but thou may thieve;
What then? poor beastie, thou maun live!
A daimen-icker in a thrave
          ’S a sma’ request:
I’ll get a blessin wi’ the lave,
          An’ never miss ’t!

Thy wee-bit housie, too, in ruin!
It’s silly wa’s the win’s are strewin!
An’ naething, now, to big a new ane,
          O’ foggage green!
An’ bleak December’s winds ensuin,
          Baith snell an’ keen!

Thou saw the fields laid bare an’ waste,
An’ weary Winter comin fast,
An’ cozie here, beneath the blast,
          Thou thought to dwell,
Till crash! the cruel coulter past
          Out thro’ thy cell.

That wee-bit heap o’ leaves an’ stibble
Has cost thee monie a weary nibble!
Now thou’s turn’d out, for a’ thy trouble,
          But house or hald,
To thole the Winter’s sleety dribble,
          An’ cranreuch cauld!

But Mousie, thou art no thy-lane,
In proving foresight may be vain:
The best laid schemes o’ Mice an’ Men
          Gang aft agley,
An’ lea’e us nought but grief an’ pain,
          For promis’d joy!

Still, thou art blest, compar’d wi’ me!
The present only toucheth thee:
But Och! I backward cast my e’e,
          On prospects drear!
An’ forward tho’ I canna see,
          I guess an’ fear!

John Leslie cleared of sex assault on bride-to-be
the article (as opposed to the headline) says
However, Sheriff Adrian Cottam found the case not proven. He said it was a difficult decision as the evidence from the woman appeared on its own to be credible, but all the evidence added up to a combination of factors that caused reasonable doubt.
Scotland has 3 possible verdicts in trials:
guilty, not guilty, and not proven
the bastard verdict
That's the thing about "not proven," the court doesn't "clear" you, rather it says it thinks there's a good chance you did it but the prosecution hasn't proven it

I think the BBC + tabloids can be held responsible for creating false hope among English supporters. Pride comes before a fall.

We used to have the same problem in Holland every 2 years. Bombarded by irrational exuberance. But not any more.

Wrong. This time there was no false hope. We are pleased that we did well. (Of course, the leftists wanted us to lose at the Group stage for obvious reasons of colonialism, superiority of everyone above England, etc. So they are gutted. On the other hand Remoaners are wetting themselves with excitement that we lost to an EU country.)

Totally different atmosphere in England from any other World Cup since, I don’t know, maybe 1980s.

The problem with kids these days is that they are too affluent and mollycuddled. Same with judo here. The legendary Dutch judokas were from the inner city.

Luka Modric learned football in war-torn car parks.Johann Cruyff was born in Cement Village and George Best learned soccer on the streets of East Belfast.

There was a time English football coverage was jingoistic and bombastic.  It's strange that now it is no longer like that, and was characterised by excitement and positivity, that still they get accused of arrogance.

Hopefully this means that we will be spared Eddy Jones' rants in 2019. He can take a leaf out of Joe Schmidt's book.
Focus on the rugby, not the mind games.

The Independent website has a story about Diane Abbott. Except it spells her surname with 3 b’s. Isn’t that some sexual code referring to a woman’s race and physical attributes? If so...

I would say that the media misquoted JRM's remarks on "common sense".

They love finding scapegoats.

Sky News (marginally better than BBC, far better than Channel 4):

Patient treated on same ward as PM 'thought he wouldn't survive'

changed to

Patient treated on same ward as PM: 'I thought I wouldn't survive'

This would not be a problem in Latin.

Who are we believing in the saga of the PPE procurement? The government or the media?

Haha! Well, that's been answered:

Some_work_needs_to_be_done_there.jpg

The Sky News stooge commenting on this chart had lots to say, especially how he was surprised by Keir Starmer's standing, but when he got to TV journalists all he managed was "Some work needs to be done there"!!!

O wad some Pow'r the giftie gie us
