i watched a tv report on this subject recently. 3d printers allow sophisticated forms/designs. it's impressive.as soon as i get one, i will 3d print an Aston Martin V12 Zagato model

Don't laugh... I have friends who have successfully 3D printed pretty sophisticated (and functional) metal parts. Direct laser sintering has enabled 3D creation out of most of the common alloys including titanium, brass, aluminum, steel, stainless, etc.

I can see how these printers could be perfect for prototyping stuff both in firms and labs, and could probably be used to make all sorts of parts on an industrial level, but there is only so much crap you can print as Joe Average.

yes, i could fullfil my lifelong dream of a 3d Guilloché thingy. I will probably lose interest 5-10 minutes after printing.
