Larry Nassar has been sentenced in his 3rd trial
from wiki
On February 5, the Eaton County Circuit Court sentenced Nassar to 40 to 125 years in prison for the three counts of criminal sexual assault to which he had pleaded in November. The sentence will run concurrently with the sentence from Ingham County but consecutive to his federal sentence.

It forces people to check and they will never forget. It was a Searle speech act, as was yours. I was at the level 3 (scary) level.

Funny thing: all these years no one mentioned it.

Speech acts can be analysed on three levels:
  1. locutionary act, the performance of an utterance: the actual utterance and its ostensible meaning, comprising phonetic, phatic and rhetic acts corresponding to the verbal, syntactic and semantic aspects of any meaningful utterance;
  2. an illocutionary act: the pragmatic 'illocutionary force' of the utterance, thus its intended significance as a socially valid verbal action (see below);
  3. and in certain cases a further perlocutionary act: its actual effect, such as persuading, convincing, scaring, enlightening, inspiring, or otherwise getting someone to do or realize something, whether intended or not (Austin 1962)

A gentleman knows the correct spelling, it being where one buys one’s suits, and is too polite to correct someone who is so unfortunate as to have to buy his clothes on the continent.

Unfortunately, most continentals don't make it past Carnaby Street.

Bill Cosby guilty in sexual assault trial, lashes out at D.A.
he was accused of drugging and raping women and faces up to 30 years in prison
He called the DA an "asshole" at the conclusion, which is unlikely to endear him to the judge
