RIP, John Bogle, dead at 89

There are 7 pages and counting of accolades at the link. He was the ultimate counterpoint to the general bad reputation that Wall Street has with investors.

As a piece of trivia, I had the pleasure of meeting him briefly once. What struck me was that he looked exactly like my father!

I have often wondered what other problematic industries could be reformed by John Bogle-style indirect philanthropy?

he founded Vanguard and the first index mutual fund offered to the general public.
After accounting for fees, very few active funds beat a passive fund which holds the index
I saw one article dated Nov. 2018
According to the folks at the Motley Fool, only ten of the ten thousand actively managed mutual funds available managed to beat the S&P 500 consistently over the course of the past ten years.
The Vanguard 500 fund has an annual expense ratio of about 0.12%, compared to an average of 1.29% for active funds.

RIP Децл "He died on 3 February 2019 in Izhevsk at the age of 35 from a sudden heart attack after performing his live set at the private birthday party. Coincidentally, he entertained the idea of faking his own death at the exact same age in the 2007 interview to a local news media agency before the concert in the same city he would actually die"
