The trick was that other people were using shells and washed-up wood from the beach to decorate their castles, so I took some of the bits of wood to build a couple of working models of mediaeval catapults. My castle told a story rather than just being decorative. That, and my opponents being mostly six years old, was how I won!P

below is the pic of one of my most-advanced sandcastle creations. a masterpiece i would say. but, notice that i have never entered any sandcastle-building competition despite the support of my relatives.
