I actually attended Pope Benectine's 1st Vatican speech, coincidentally.

When Italians have problems then Jesus is 6th man they pray to.

Sounds a bit sectarian if you ask me.

Some background to ppauper's meanderings:

After House Chaplain Fr. Patrick Conroy offered his resignation at the request of Ryan, the Jesuit priest told the media that Ryan had confronted him about a prayer he gave on the House floor as the chamber debated a tax-reform package. “Padre, you just got to stay out of politics,” the priest reported Ryan telling him. Ryan denies firing the priest for political reasons.

May all members be mindful that the institutions and structures of our great nation guarantee the opportunities that have allowed some to achieve great success, while others continue to struggle. May their efforts these days guarantee that there are not winners and losers under new tax laws, but benefits balanced and shared by all Americans.

you're calling the pope "a bit sectarian" for attacking derivatives?

No, you're calling yourself sectarian. Like Ryan.

Let’s not forget that Ryan once took issue with another Jesuit priest, Pope Francis. “The guy is from Argentina,” Ryan scoffed a few years ago. “They haven’t had real capitalism in Argentina. They have crony capitalism in Argentina. They don't have a true free enterprise system.”

the chaplain was being passive-aggressive and engaging in party politics. The chaplain is supposed to be neutral, not to be a cheerleader for one side or the other.
Tax changes always create winners and losers.
Under the GOP tax plan, the winners were almost all Americans.
Just about the only people who didn't benefit were the very rich, especially in  blue states because the tax plan reduced an enormous loophole for the very wealthy by bringing in a $10,000 cap on the state and local income and property tax deduction.

The idea of a House chaplain paid for by taxpayers is pretty offensive in its own right. As for the GOP tax hikes, one can only hope that we will get revenge someday. That they are massively blowing up the budget deficit in the process, immediately to be followed by cuts in the social safety net as a partial offset is merely Republican business as usual.

‘Heretic’ in the Vatican

in the old days, people used to say, "Is the Pope Catholic?"
Now they say, "Is the Pope Argentinian?"
