As part of your training, you might try jogging/running segments of the actual course. I find that familiar courses feel faster to me and I can focus on execution of the run rather than planning. It also lets one plan strategy around hills and corners. (Some people don't agree with this approach -- they like the visual distraction of new sights and real-time problems solving of a new course.)

Keep focused til the end manAnd don't forget to warm down after the race. You don't see Abebe Bikila falling to the ground. That was an amazing moment

Wooww I'm shivering watching again Paul Radcliffe beating the women marathon record in 2002 in Chicago. Michael Jackson's white gloves probably helped a bit.Queen Paula

this was in the UK going to the dogs thread, but this thread is more appropriateQuoteOriginally posted by: ppauperHalf Marathon cancelled due to lack of water they don't have running water in Sheffield ?QuoteSheffield's Half Marathon has been cancelled due to a lack of water for runners, organisers have said. There were chaotic scenes at the starting point as a "significant number" of the 5,000 runners decided to run the route regardless.South Yorkshire Police said it had initially tried to set up road blocks but later decided it was safer to let them complete the run.sounds insane,5000 people there to do a half marathon, many of whom I assume were from out of town and who had travelled. There was no bottled water for the water stops so they cancelled the raceThe runners tried to run anyway and the police tried to stop themmany years ago, the NYC marathon used to crack open hydrants and the volunteers at the water stops would fill cups I suspect that no one does that anymore
