Well, that quote certainly fits the category.

“It’s unpleasantly like being drunk.”

“What’s so unpleasant about being drunk?”

“Ask a glass of water!”

Lass: Any reasonable expert – that is, anyone but Professor Ferguson from Imperial College who would have locked down everybody when we had swine flu – will tell you that lockdown cannot change the final number of infected people. It can only change the rate of infection. And people argue that by changing the rate of infection and ‘flattening the curve’, we prevented the collapse of hospitals. I have shown you the costs of lockdown, but this was the argument in favour of it. But look at Sweden. No lockdown and no collapse of hospitals. The argument for the lockdown collapses.

I think actual experts in system science know that there are no silver bullets and - regardless of the actual failures in the UK covid management - would refrain from comparing Sweden and the UK.

It's called Nirvana concepts. The first paper I find: https://jessebaltutis.wordpress.com/2014/07/14/130/
"Nirvana concepts, narratives and models have all been used to propagate certain policies and decision-making in the water sector. Each of these ‘discursive objects’ are used to design policies and support particular agendas, for better or worse. In a nutshell, they are:
– Nirvana concepts: underpin overarching frameworks of analysis (might never be attained, but offer a goal; are value-based, and often described as common sense, which makes it difficult to refute)
– Narratives: causal and explanatory beliefs (floods and droughts are due to deforestation, which can be stemmed with conservation efforts)
Models: Policies or development interventions (often are implemented without consideration for context, capacity, resources available – and ignore endogenous approaches by local actors)"

What about round-off error? Multiprecision.

I've always found Paul to be a modest person, whose self-esteem hasn't yet got accustomed to the social advancement he achieved (even after discounting for his privileged white male status - at any mention of which he plays the multi-racial children card). I'm sure he's still secretly snacking on cod bones and rotten cabbage.

" found Paul to be a modest person"

so his ego is only footnote-size then, all good!

I think we would have to see the other footnotes in the list first.
As well as the reference to that footnote.
