Hopeless Afghan struggle to save boy sex slaves

as an aside, we've lost our way in afghanistan.
the war was a mistake. We wanted bin laden because of 9/11, we asked the taliban and they refused to hand him over, so we went to war with the taliban, and by the time we got to where bin laden had been, he was long gone and it took years to find him.
Looking back, we should have ignored the taliban and just gone straight for bin laden, be it with bombs or special forces in helicopters or whatever. Destroying al qaeda was the goal, not regime change in afghanistan
For a long time, it's looked like the end result of the afghan war is going to be a restoration of the taliban as part of a coalition, so right back where we started but with a whole bunch of dead western soldiers and a whole bunch of money wasted

An Afghan insurgent group has released video of a kidnapped North American couple, featuring two children apparently born to them in captivity.

The couple were abducted in Afghanistan in 2012 during a camping trip, while she was pregnant.

???
next time, maybe go camping in jellystone instead

Afghanistan was always a tough nut to crack. This book tells a fascinating story of the early British attempts to have their way with it, and how they failed.

suddenly this makes a lot more sense
Canadian husband of American woman 'refuses to board US plane in fear he will be punished for his previous marriage to a terror suspect' after they are rescued in Pakistan with their three young children following five years in Taliban captivity

Zaynab Khadr who is the sister of Omar Khadr, the youth who was sent to gitmo for killing a US medic in afghanistan

'We are an al-Qaeda family': Khadr son
A Canadian who was released from Guantanamo Bay in October says he lied about his family's ties with al-Qaeda and that he was trained to become a suicide bomber.
In a documentary aired Wednesday on CBC's The National, Abdurahman Khadr said his father was old friends with al-Qaeda leader Osama bin Laden and that his brothers attended terrorist training camps.

they were pilgrims
the husband has issued a statement
he says that they had a 4th baby, who was killed by their captors, and that the wife was raped
"The stupidity and the evil of the Haqqani network in the kidnapping of a pilgrim... was eclipsed only by the stupidity and evil of authorising the murder of my infant daughter," he said.
"And the stupidity and evil of the subsequent rape of my wife, not as a lone action by one guard, but assisted by the captain of the guard and supervised by the commandant."

He who would valiant be
′Gainst all disaster,
Let him in constancy
Follow the Master.
There’s no discouragement
Shall make him once relent
His first avowed intent
To be a pilgrim.

it seems that the trump administration was behind the family's release, so thank you mr president

the rescue itself was performed by  pakistani special forces, using intelligence supplied by the trump administration, and  the family were freed when the kidnappers tried to take them across the border from afghan to pakistan

Pakistani soldiers, acting on American intelligence, appear to have opened fire at the tyres of a car carrying Caitlan Coleman, 31, her husband, Joshua Boyle, 34, and their three children, not long after it crossed the border from Afghanistan into Pakistan’s tribal areas on Wednesday.
