Say "vet" in my house, and you won't see any sign of a cat for the next 2 hours.

We were considering having someone stay in our home to keep the cats company during our holidays. We would obviously have to do something about the mess in the attic. But then Mrs Outrun thought "how do famous people do this? They don't want people snooping in their homes". She then wondered "would some of them put their animals in a drug induced coma? That way the animals won't feel sad because of their owners not being around. They would wake up and nothing's changed" And then "if I came up with this idea then surely someone must have done it".

What do you think?

We used to take a pet sitting company (they usually came for an hour a day and also stayed overnight once or twice a week; always sent photos from their visits). Now we have several neighbours who live with their own cats or simply love cats. We look after each other's pets or - if there's no pet to return the favour - I insist on paying them (especially if it's a young person) and bring them presents. That works much better for the cats and thus ourselves :-)
A hotel would be the last resort (nomen omen). I've read that changing the environment generated a lot of stress for pets in such situations.
I know that they often give tranquillisers to pets for travel (my ferret slept the whole day - which is about 25% longer than usual - when I was bringing her to London), but otherwise you'd need to ask your vet. I personally doubt it's safe and good for their health. Maybe ask a befriended neighbour or try finding some recommended petsitter? If you lived in London, I would come and take care of them :-)

Put the cat in a box with a tritium light. As long as you don't open the box, the cat may be alive!

"Hotel"?!

Catteries are usually fine. Pettsitters cost more than babysitters. And if you'd spend more on your animals than you do on your children then you shouldn't be allowed to have either!

You keep talking about the children and being a father as if it was the first time in your life when you care about someone as much as (more than?) yourself. I have been loved many times in my life and I love. In the words of a poor poet I am, it's about wantingly giving and desperately wanting, but not expecting, something in return. Money can be helpful in life, but it doesn't enter this definition.

Every post here should mention children...that is what life is about!!!

If you are this passionate now then if/when you have children you will explode!

My life is about much greater and more important things (such as cats).
