As bearish says, he was memorable. Our families went to Saratoga together a few years ago, and we co-own(ed) one of those racehorses mentioned in the article. Even getting an email from him was memorable, decoding them was a mammoth task! And, Collector, he was even faster at replying to emails than you!William Thomas Ziemba August 30 1941 June 22 2022
"Even at 80, he held a ski pass and enjoyed riding the gondola"
met him only in London once, seemed very kind and enthusiastic about many ideas, he invited me to his ski lodge up in the Canadian mountains, unfortunately I never went there
I am planning to spend Xmas and New year eve in Krakow.Did his ancestors come from Poland by any chance? Ziemba is Polish for finch, the bird. Or would it be Galapagos. I saw a dead bird today. Lying still and peaceful like the surrounding forest. Death is just like life - comes in so many flavours.
RIP
As an old saying goes: “Når skarasnøen ligger til St. Hans, da blir det sein vår.”Travelling to Poland in the festive season is not the most relaxing experience, especially now when they havent yet hired back the staff after the corona lockdown. But Kraków is quite nice in the winter, and close to beautiful mountains - you can visit Zakopane. Prepare some warm clothes though.
I just hope I’ll cosy up on the sofa with my boyfriend and cats. The best winters are in Norway!
