Quant Equity vs FICC, Trading vs Structuring

March 24th, 2017, 10:10 am

Hello everyone,
I received offers from the same company to become a quant on the trading division or on the Structuring division in Equity or FICC.
I only have experience in Equity until now (vanilla and asian options and futures on index and ETFs).

Generally speaking, I am more interested in equity and derivatives. But commodities can really be interesting too (fixed income doesn't seem really sexy). I am definitely more interested to work in the trading division but if one of you has good arguments in favor of structuring, I'm listening.

My big dilemma is between equity and FICC. I wonder if some of you have made this choice, what did you take, why ? Do you still think it was a good idea ? What is the most challenging department ?

What's the appeal of sell side (non-algo) trading jobs nowadays?
