Quant, Blackjack Card Counter trying to switch into Trading

April 26th, 2018, 5:13 am

Hi,

I am currently a risk quant, and have been working in the industry for almost six years.  I don't want to be in risk any more, and would like to change to a more fast paced work environment.

I have been wanting to switching into being a trader for some time.  I don't have any trading experience, but however I do have experience being a Blackjack card counter.  I have been banned from playing Blackjack at seven casinos in Las Vegas (no kidding, and I can prove it!).  I personally there are important similarities between trading and card counting (i.e. emotional discipline, money management).

Can someone please give me some advice how I can transfer to a trading role?

Also I am wondering whether I should put the Blackjack experience on my resume?  What will people think of it?  Does anyone know of which places would appreciate people with these skills?

Many Thanks!

Sure, Blackjack experience is common to many in finance, Ed Thorp of course, Blair Hull, others I'm sure. I'd say put it your resume. Ditto if you have won any poker tournaments, esp. against Le Chiffre.  :D

Susquehanna group apparently thinks it's a big plus.

Yes I interviewed with Susquehanna before, but unfortunately it did not work out.

But I think they are more interested in Poker
