Career path from quant prop trading

May 30th, 2018, 12:07 am

Finished undergrad recently with a math degree, and have an offer on the table for a small quant prop shop focusing on statistical arbitrage. I'm interested in the position, but worried that I may be stuck to prop trading forever from here. Is the knowledge I'll gain from this (strategy and a wide array of markets) something that will be applicable elsewhere in the future?
I'm wondering if anyone could share their perspective on career mobility from this, or if I should pursue other positions in finance in order to have mobility in the future (ie. bank, hedge fund, asset management). I want to try to avoid realizing I am at a dead end in the future if I decide this isn't the career for me.

Appreciate any advice!

Prop trading is the most atractive position these days. Congratulations!
