In this market, any HH is of course just a bit more guarded about giving away the name of those who are still hiring. But it would not be saying much to say a firm like GS is looking for someone like you, unless your job is both highly specialised and/or senior. If (for instance) you were head of risk analytics at a firm, and you were being asked to consider roles at GS, you'd be smart enough to work out that the current holder of that job (who you may know personally) is on his way out.Happens more often than you might think, but is not the normal situation at all. More commonly, management perceive that there is risk by letting this info out. There do exist a small number of very sensitive clients indeed who merely by letting be known that they are hiring someone like you, that would be an issue for them.In my experience, dj99b's issue often comes about when you have a junior HH who's been told by their boss not to say, so perhaps you need to speak to the main agent on the case. It's also worth asking the general class of the employer, whether it is a HF, (former) IB, foreign bank, etc, and of course whether it is TARPed or not.
