Put Hunting as a hobby on your cv

January 23rd, 2014, 5:33 pm

A friend of mine (yeah, right) is a licensed hunter. Would you put that on your cv? Personally I think it sounds like an intense hobby and getting the license ("Jagdpatent") is quite a difficult endeavour which involves tons of classes and exams. On the other hand it could scare coworkers. Also it probably doesn't look too good to crazy vegans.

my 2-cent.The (+) / (-) balance is against any mention of hunting, on a resume. it would also avoid "passionate of bull-fighting"...Besides, I'm not sure the mention "passionate about the life cycle of animals" has ever landed anyone in Wall Street.

Large potential risk, small chance of gain. A job is a binary thing - you can't have 84% of a jobI once had to take part in a group exercise with HR that began with a "go round the room in turn and tell everyone something that you do or don't like". After the 3rd person said they liked rugby, it became clear that the correct answer was to say "I also like rugby". The following day, nobody cared about your specific personal tastes - but HR cared very much that the people in the room were capable of doing what they were told and not causing upset.Tell your friend to put something else on his/her CV. When he/she makes MD, then they can mention the hunting thing.

I wouldn't like to work with this person either. And on this occasion it's not because I think hunters are low-life idiots. A few of them drowned in the bogs when they entered our land. Well, accidents happen (fortunately usually to those my family doesn't like). Anyway, a person who puts on their CV things which may obviously be sensitive to some people will not make a good teammate, IMHO. Just someone trying to shine a bit too hard, just like CrashedMint.

Step over the gap, not into it. Watch the space between platform and train.
