Re: what did the painter do wrong?

June 2nd, 2018, 6:08 pm

An art dealer (this story is authentic) bought a canvas signed “Picasso” and travelled all the way to Cannes to discover whether it was genuine. Picasso was working in his studio. he cast a single look at the canvas and said: “It’s a fake.”
A few months later the dealer bought another canvas signed Picasso. Again he travelled to Cannes and again Picasso, after a single glance, grunted: “It’s a fake.”
“But cher maitre,” expostulated the dealer, “it so happens that I saw you with my own eyes working on this very picture several years ago.”
Picasso shrugged: “I often paint fakes.”

did Picasso ever paint equations, and was not all his art fake art in the eyes of a real artist like Munch, sorry I mean da Vinci. The uncle of my  father was an art critique (as I have mentioned before) and he wrote a piece in main newspaper on how Munch pictures were not art but dirt.

Speaking of art and its antithesis, one of my ancestors was an aspiring poet. Since his father was influential, the door of the most famous houses stood open to him. Eventually he was invited along with the crème de la crème of Polish artists and thinkers to famous dinners organised by the king himself. Although his poetry isn't all that bad (rather a bit indecent and humorous in an unusual way), he was so obtrusive advertising it that he was forced to stop writing on pain of losing his social status. He died soon after. Oh well...

We could make a list of twelve labours of Euclid - by analogy to Heracles's labours.
1. Pain Gabriel's horn
2. Comb the sphere without leaving a cowlick
3. Fill the Klein bottle
4. Run to the other side of the Moebius strip
?

5. Find the last digit of pi
6. Get solutions to 1+arctan(1+arctan(1 + arctan(........)))
7. Build an internal combustion engine that needs a Sierpinski gasket
?

"5. Find the last digit of pi"
3, it is the same as the first one!

Is it a palindrome? Does pi = ip?

The answer is #1 (Katastrofa). The others need some extra work but still get an honourable mention.
The painter needs an infinite amount of paint because Gabriel's horn is formed by taking the graph of [$]f(x) = 1/x[$] and rotating it in 3d about the x-axis.

The surface of revolution is infinite as can be seen by using Cauchy's Integral Test Theorem (sequence of partial sums is not a Cauchy sequence in this case).
