industrial-strength brainteaser cracked?

February 26th, 2003, 4:02 pm

BTW, here is the original problem:******************************Here is a simplistic head up poker problem that is far from simple and unless already solved, might make for a good master's or even Phd thesis. Two players A and B are dealt a real number between zero and one. Both players ante a dollar. A goes first and either bets the pot or checks. If he bets, B calls or folds. If he checks, B either checks behind him or bets the pot. A can then call or fold. There are no raises in this game. After the first round, if both players are still in, they both get a second card from zero to one. Same betting rules for the second round. Highest total wins any showdowns. What is optimum strategy for both players? How much will B earn per hand?PS In case this problem recieives a lot of attention in the math or economics community, I'm going to immodestly dub it the "Sklansky Problem".***************************** MP
