EV Battery/Motor Materials

March 5th, 2021, 4:48 pm

Does anyone have thoughts on how the markets will adapt to the materials needed to manufacture EV batteries and motors?  Specifically, hedging to keep costs under control.  LME already has nickel, CME announced a Cobalt contract spec.  Gold and silver have hedge solutions.  I don't think there is anything for Lithium, Neodymium, Terbium, or Dysprosium among others.  Some car makers may operate their own mines or just do locked fixed price deals?

Who says there will be a market? Maybe a monopoly as with Jan Pieterszoon Coen and Banda islands in the 1630s?

"locked fixed price deals" - I know that Tesla used to do that some years ago, but I no longer have interest in this company after the 'pedo guy' story (solidarity of alternate air sources ;-))

I think I read that they had made progress on a vaccine against dysprosium.
